Call Me Crazy

Just over a week ago, I decided that I needed a vacation, and bad! And now, somehow, I am driving up north, 21 hours away with three kids, to go to a campground on a lake. If we can make it there without major incident, it will be a miracle.

This past week I have been planning meticulously and trying to get my house cleaned and things ready to go. It's been a little difficult, as I am picking up my niece from school in the afternoons and making dinner for the extended family each night. (And not to mention that my children are wearing me out these days too). We have been struggling with Haleah's tantrums and fit throwing and are working to find the best way to handle it.

Anyhow, back to the trip... We are borrowing a Garmin GPS system and an auto DVD player for the ride. We haven't invested much in the way of technological gadgets for our car, but something tells me these things will come in handy this time. I have also packed special toys for the kids and put them aside, so that they will seem more exciting to them on the ride.

We will be traveling, making our initial jaunt out at the kids' bedtime, a.k.a. 7:00pm. We will be driving through the night, and beyond. David and I will take driving shifts, and it will take all I have not to whine and complain and feel sorry for myself. I had to try REAL hard to convince David to take this vacation. I know he needs a vacation too, but to drive with three small ones this far? Not his idea of fun. But if we can make it to this campground, where my Mom has kept a trailer on a lake for the past nearly 20 years, then I will be happy. I know I probably won't be able to relax much when I get there, but I will be happy to breathe the fresh, cool air and listen to the loons calling on the lake. I am a camper in my heart and soul. I love the outdoors and the creation around us. I have not been on a vacation to enjoy such things in a long, long time. And I desire my children to develop the same appreciation as I do. So, here goes! I'm sure there will be lots and lots to blog about when I get home, and many stories to tell.
