Deluge Chicken

Today was a day I'd rather not talk too much about. I can hardly type because I think I sprained my pinky finger trying to jump up out of the chair to stop Haleah from disobeying me one more time, and I jammed my hand on the corner of a side table. I am so exhausted today and have come close to losing it many times. Haleah threw a block, hard, right at Kaelah's face. And dinner was a disaster with nobody eating what I prepared for them and threw food off the table. And I feel like my children don't listen to what I say. They ignore me and it drives me up a wall.

So I'd rather talk about yesterday a bit...

I had Cora and Gracyn over for the day. I took a little video of Kaelah blowing bubbles by herself outside. I had Cora make brownies for our dessert (which managed to get globbed all over the kitchen, but she had fun with it and they turned out yummy). Haleah learned to trace shapes and letters with a pen and write the letters "H" and "D" on her own. She wanted to learn "H" for Haleah and "D" for Daddy. I was proud of her.

Evening time was interesting. I decided to grill BBQ chicken and it had been marinading all day. When it came time to cook, however, the rains came down...hard. So I was resigned to cook the chicken in the oven. Well, I got the chicken in the oven and the rains stopped. So I thought...hmm, and I took the chicken out of the oven and went outside and placed it on the grill. Well, Murphy's Law would have it that as soon as the chicken went on the grill that the rains came down again. It was a deluge! But I had to go out there and finish the chicken. So there I stood in the pouring rain with the kids' play umbrella. It was something else... And you wouldn't believe it, but the chicken turned out dry, even though it was pouring rain. Ha.

Later evening was terrible. Kaelah came barrelling into the kitchen where the extended family was gathered and ran right into the wall then fell over, straight down onto her head. Then later, when David was putting her pajamas on in our room, she went to get up on the bed and fell off the edge of our bed onto her head. What a disaster. I heard the screams and my heart about came out of my chest. I could hardly breathe--I was so scared that something severe happened to her. David was a wreck too. He couldn't catch her in time. But she survived. Poor sweet thing.

I went to bed early last night too and skipped my blogging and Facebooking because I've been too dog tired. It was good to catch up on my sleep. But now I seem ever more tired today. And everyone is irritable instead of refreshed. I hope this cloudy mood passes from us all by tomorrow.
