Out of Control

I'm beginning to think my kids have me figured out. They know exactly when I can't get up to chase them or hunt them down. And when that moment happens, they decide to break it loose! Today, control was lost.

It began pretty much after naptime (though there were chaotic moments prior to that as well). Haleah woke from nap with a wet bed. I decided to see if she could make it through nap and stay dry in her undies. Actually, I halfway decided and halfway plain forgot to put a Pull Up on her. Anyhow, she woke up soaked, so I immediately stripped the sheets down. And since Kaelah was already a bit stir crazy after her nap, and it was pouring rain outside, I decided to give the kids an early bath.

As I "dumped" them both into the tub, Bekah woke from her nap and decided to screech the whole time as I washed the older kids and tried to tend to her at the same time. Haleah got out of the bath, sooner rather than later, because she threw water in Kaelah's face, twice, when I told her not to.

After the bath I was thinking that I better give Bekah a bath too, because she really needed one and I knew I'd be even more tired later in the night. So as I was bathing Bekah separately, Haleah and Kaelah took off to Haleah's room and decided to "let loose." They dragged out Kaelah's bin of diapers and dumped them all over the room. They got out books from high in the closet and threw them all over the floor. They emptied out their dress up drawers too, all while wearing their "funny hats." They like to do things they believe are funny while wearing these "funny" winter hats. So strange. And that room was quite a sight by the time I got back to see it...

Kaelah was also injured a lot today, as usual. Haleah pushed her to the floor twice, right on her head. And this morning, Kaelah walked right into the handle of the wheelbarrow outside, hitting her right in the noggin. Ouch!

And finally, there was near death experience... As I was putting dirty laundry into the washer, I happened to look back at Kaelah behind me and saw her as she was thisclose to touching a black widow spider sitting on her play kitchen set in the laundry room. I screamed. I screamed so loud that Kaelah pulled back her hand, thank goodness. I am still so shaken up over this, I can hardly stand it. Last year I saw 7 black widows around our house. This was the first one I've seen this year, and I am going to go totally ballistic, especially since I have a toddler who is into everything. I don't even want to think about what my night would've been like had she been bitten by a black widow spider. God was watching over us tonight, for sure.

p.s. This one pic is one of the only quiet moments I had today of the kids reading. So precious.

Your stories make me exhausted and scared, all at once. How much is an exterminator there?
